Resco Explorer 2010 Beta 3

Resco, creator of several quality applications for Windows Mobile including Resco Photo Manager and Contact Manager, has announced in our forums that the Beta 3 version of Resco Explorer 2010 has been released.

Resco Explorer is a File Manager that is packed with features. Explorer offers a number of tools to improve navigation such as touch optimization, search functionality, and favorites. Advanced file features such as FTP, Network Browsing, and encryption are some of the more complex functionality you can expect to find in Explorer.

If you like to have total control over your files, hit up Resco (or preferably our Software Store) for the full lowdown on what Resco Explorer offers you. To play with the beta version, visit the thread our forums.

Resco Radio Gets Touch Optimized, v2.0 Beta

It's been quite some time since Resco has updated their Radio program (see earlier review), so it's no surprise to see them set their sights on giving it an overhaul.

So far, not too much has changed as can be seen below.  There is still a limited selection of stations (you can manually import Shoutcast) and no way to search for new stations, in that regard, Kinoma Play is still easier with full Shoutcast integration.  List of changes so far:

  • Touch optimized list of radios (All Stations)
  • Letter bar for easier navigation in Categories
  • Icon for stream quality visualization

Still, if you just want a streaming radio app, Resco Radio is a beaut with its simplicity and speed (plus you can record streams, natch).  It's running smooth on the my Touch Pro 2, so go and give it a shot and give the Resco team some feedback!

Review: Resco Photo Viewer 7 Beta

Posted on Sunday, Sep 13, 2009 by George Ponder

Resco Photo Viewer 7 seems to be a fast study. Just a few weeks ago we reported on the Alpha version being sighted and now Resco has up and released a public Beta version of their popular photo viewer. We were very impressed with the Alpha version ("awesome" according to Maltesta) and unless Resco really dropped the ball the same level of quality is expected with the Beta.

Admittedly, I'm more comfortable with my Canon DSLR and Photoshop but I understand that camera phones and portable image viewing can be equally important tools. I don't always have my digital camera with me but it's rare that I don't have my AT&T Fuze with me. If I need to show a potential client examples of my work or simply need to update a contacts photo, a photo viewer can come in handy. A good, feature rich photo viewer will compliment your camera whether it be a stand alone digital camera or the on-board camera on your phone. To see how well the Resco Photo Viewer 7 Beta measures up to the "awesome" status, follow the break.

Resco shows off Photo Viewer alpha - looks awesome

Looks like Resco is finally turning its attention to the aging Photo Viewer app, which while very popular and powerful has become quite dated in terms of UI (see our earlier review).

In their forums (via ppcgeeks) they are showing off their "alpha" version, meaning this is very early in development. Having said that, we gave it a spin on our Treo Pro and, darn it all ... the thing runs very well.

What can you expect? How about it is very fast in terms of the UI and loading photos, the UI is gorgeous and very intuitive. We especially like the easy zoom feature and the much-needed "touch" interaction.

Also, there's:

  • G-sensor support
  • Touch friendlyness
  • The folder shows the preview of the pictures inside it
  • 100% zoom in and out using double clicking (zoom the double clicked area)
  • Thumbnail and list view and multiselection operations
  • Direct access to the camera
  • Upload to Facebook, Flickr

Normally we steer you guys clear of betas, let alone alphas, but in this case we're going to have to give a thumbs up as it seems quite stable and harmless (it's about 2mb for the install.).  Take a peek after the break for a few screenshots.

Review: Resco Pocket Radio

Posted on Thursday, Aug 13, 2009 by Tim Ferrill

Resco Pocket Radio - Main Screen

Internet Radio is one of the things that I like most about the Internet. Having moved around a lot, it’s nice to be able to continue listening to the radio stations that I’ve become accustomed to. Finding an Internet Radio application for Windows Mobile that is worth the cost isn’t the easiest task. SPB Software came out with their Internet Radio App (SPB Radio) late last month to good reviews.

Resco, makers of Resco Explorer and Resco Contact Manager also released an update to their Internet Radio app last month. Resco Pocket Radio offers some similar functionality to SPB Radio, but also offers some variations on the feature set.
The complete rundown is after the break.

Resco Contact Manager 2 (beta) Goes Live; Brings the "Social"

Contact Manager sort of came out of nowhere from Resco and quickly became a very popular phone app for WinMo (see our positive review here).

In a very quick turnaround, Resco today announced the beta of 2nd Edition of the app, which starts to focus on Facebook and even Google Maps.  Specifically, here are the changes:

  • Enhanced Facebook Integration
  • Support for Google Maps Application
  • Group Operations
    • Send SMS to group members,
    • Send MMS to group members,
    • Send E-mail to group members
    • Set Ringtone to group members
    • Delete Contacts
  • Fully Customizable Today Plug-in

We have to admit, using it for the last few hours, this is a very strong beta.  The replacement caller ID screen (always a tricky hack) runs very smoothly, our keyguard works on the Treo Pro and the customizable Today Plugin, while quirky, offers much needed flexibility.

Curious about giving it a spin? Head to Resco's forums here to grab a .cab which is good for a 7 day trial (your previous registration code for 1.x works with this beta).

Games on your WM can be a life saver when sitting in a doctor’s waiting room or in airport waiting for your 3 hour delayed flight. With the average game costing between $9.99 and $19.99, it can be costly to choose a game that is not worth your time while leaving you at square one with needing to buy another game.

This is where WMExperts can help. I have reviewed Resco Gamebox ver 1.12. Is it worth the $19.99? Read on to see if this is one to pass on, or if it is the perfect collection of games that will entertain you when you need it most!

Resco Table Soccer

I loved Table Soccer growing up and still love to play it when I see it in an arcade somewhere. I love to have a small chest full of time wasting, addicting games on my handheld for those times you really need them, like in the Doctor's waiting room or waiting for your delayed plane at the airport. So when I saw Resco's Table Soccer this last year I snagged it. The answer to my question of is it worth the money, was soon to be answered.  Just follow the break.

Resco Bubbles

I never thought that as an adult that popping bubbles while doing connect the dots could be so engaging and addictive, but Resco Bubbles has opened my eyes to (and fulfilling) these needs that I didn’t even know existed deep inside me.

As I am sure you have seen on TV, read about here at WMExperts, or discovered in your own WM phone that you have recently purchased, many of the new phones now come with G-Sensor built in. What is that? It is the phone’s ability to detect which way the phone is moved or tilted. And with this new technology, games that take full advantage of it are starting to hit the market as well. We here are WMExperts will continue to highlight and share the best of, and the worst of, this new genre of games.
Resco Bubbles ver 1.20 is the first one of this new genre that we are reviewing here at WMExperts in detail. As I mentioned above, it is addictive, but it is too simple to not be worth the money? Read on to find out if wasted hours of popping bubbles is destined to be a must have for your current or future phone.
