Review: Smartphone Experts TopPouch Case

Posted on Friday, Dec 4, 2009 by George Ponder

The choice of a case is about as unique as the Windows phone itself. Some prefer horizontal cases, some side cases, some hard cases, and some just prefer skins. For the vertical case crowd, Smartphone Experts offers the TopPouch Case for a wide variety of Windows phones, and we recently took one out for a test drive with the AT&T Tilt2 (a.k.a. Touch Pro 2).

Follow the break to read about our impressions on this case.

Celebrating 10 Years of Smartphone Communities

Posted on Wednesday, Sep 9, 2009 by Dieter Bohn

Filed Under: WMExperts.com; Tags: Smartphone Experts

Ten years ago today, 9/9/99, our fearless leader Marcus Adolfsson launched VisorCentral.com - a community providing news, reviews and forums focused on a single product: the Handspring Visor.  The Visor, you may recall, was the PDA that was destined to start the smartphone revolution with the VisorPhone.

Ten years later, we have grown from that single small site to a network of seven different communities, each focused on a core brand of smartphone and dedicated to providing everything a user could need or want to know about their smartphone - from news to chat, reviews to ringtones, podcasts to apps, accessories to wallpapers. The Smartphone Experts Network has over 1.8 million members in our forums; on any given day there are thousands of users logged in: finding help, talking about the latest news, reviewing products, and more. We still have plenty of active members that signed up literally within days of our 9/9/99 launch. Millions of visitors every month come to us to find out the latest information for their smartphone.

Review: SPE Snap-on and Click for the Samsung Jack

Posted on Thursday, Jul 16, 2009 by George Ponder

The Samsung Jack is still relatively new and slowly but surely, case options are showing up. We've taken a look at the Samsung Horizontal Case for the Jack and now we'll turn our sites on two Smartphone Experts shell-styled cases, the Snap-on and the Click. These two cases are hard shells with one sliding on to your Samsung Jack for protection and the other a two piece hard shell that encases the Jack.

Follow the break to see what type of impression these two hard shell cases left with us.

Sorry, folks, no WMExperts podcast this week. But to make up for it, this week we're bringing you — Smartphone Experts Roundtable Live!

Tonight, Wednesday, June 24 at 8pm EDT/5pm PDT, SPE Editor-in-Chief, Dieter Bohn (representing PreCentral.net, AndroidCentral.com, and WMExperts.com), Kevin Michaluk (fearless leader of CrackBerry.com), and Matt Miller (editor of NokiaExperts.com) will be joining yours Rene Ritchie from theiPhoneBlog.com to talk Palm Pre, BlackBerry Tour, Nokia N97, and our very own iPhone 3GS/iPhone 3.0 — and, hopefully, a little Windows Mobile thrown in for good measure.

Review: Smartphone Experts Sync & Charge Cable with Tips

Smartphone Experts Sync & Charge Cable with Tips

Geeks (like myself) tend to have a lot of gadgets. Those gadgets tend to come with an assortment of cabling for power, audio and synchronization. Trying to sell a geek more cabling can be like pulling teeth, unless that cabling helps cut down on the existing cable clutter.

Smartphone Experts produces a number of Sync & Charge solutions for various Smartphones, including several that offer retractable cabling that allows for easy storage and transportation. The problem with these types of solutions can be that they are locked down to one device manufacturer or model. This problem is handled elegantly by this option.

Stick around for the full rundown.

Vegas, baby! Our CTIA coverage is so money

Lock up your daughters, folks, the injunction's been lifted, and Dieter Bohn and company have returned to Las Vegas for CTIA. (We forgot what it stands for a long time ago — something to do with cell phones and VEGAS, BABY!) For the next several days, we'll have an avalanche of the latest Windows Mobile news just as fast as el jefe can carrier pigeon it back to us from the Nevada desert. And we've got a handy link, just for you, to follow it all.

But if you're hurtin' for more smartphone news than should be allowed by law, be sure to hit up our sister sites — Android Central, Crackberry.com, NokiaExperts, PreCentral.net, The iPhone Blog and Treo Central — for all the happenings from their parts of the world. And for the really hard-core, you can follow @backlon on Twitter for all of Mr. Bohn's exploits, live and direct. And @crackberrykevin is along for the ride, too, fresh off his recent national television appearance.

Strap in, folks. It's gonna be a fun week.

Around SPE for 1 March, 2009

In a sense, it was a calm after the Mobile World Congress storm this week, but we got together and recorded a massive hour-and-a-half-long Smartphone Experts Roundtable Podcast to discuss all the news from Windows Mobile 6.5 to the Ovi app Store to Apple's "absent presence" at the show.

If you didn't realize, SPE has four podcasts for your listening pleasure: the CrackBerry.com Podcast, the Phone Different Podcast (with the occasional iPhone LIVE! show), the PalmCast on both TreoCentral and PreCentral.net, and finally the WMExperts Podcast. The bold and daring may even want to try the (still in Beta, since it's based on the somewhat unreliable Yahoo Pipes feature) Smartphone Experts Combined Podcast Feed, which puts all four podcasts into a single feed -- also available in iTunes, if that's how you roll.

Now for the roundup of the week's news!

Welcome Nokia Experts to the Family!

Posted on Tuesday, Jan 27, 2009 by Dieter Bohn

We're incredibly happy to announce that we're adding another member to the Smartphone Experts family of sites: Nokia Experts!  Nokia Experts will be run by the inestimable Matt Miller, also known as The Mobile Gadgeteer, host of ZDNet's Smartphones and Cellphones blog, palmsolo, and all around mobility guru.

Matt has a ton of knowledge about a subject that the rest of us at Smartphone Experts have historically lacked, namely Nokia, S60, and the Symbian OS in general.  He gives himself a brief introduction here, in the unlikely event you're not familiar.

Nokia has, as yet, not successfully made a big smartphone push in the United States, but that's quite likely to change as they have a slew of exciting new devices coming out and are also likely to have their E71 messaging smartphone picked up by AT&T very soon.  In other words, if, like us, you're relatively new to Nokia and S60 but want to learn more, Nokia Experts is surely going to be one of your best resources.  Heck, Matt's already published a full review of the Nokia 5800 Tube XpressMusic touch screen S60 device.  The 'Tube' is already a best-selling device overseas and is more of a worthy contender than you might think, so the review is definitely worth a read.

Go on and head over to Nokia Experts now and give 'em a big ol' hello!

Smartphone Experts P7 Pouch

SPE%20P7%20One.jpg

I’m a big fan of Smartphone Experts’ cases. I’ve always found them to be well made, stylish, and reasonably priced. While Smartphone Experts offers a standard side pouch to fit the AT&T Fuze/HTC Touch Pro they also offer the Smartphone Experts P7 pouch ($19.95). While similar to the standard side pouch, the P7 does stand out a bit. To see how and if the P7 falls in line with SPE’s reputation for delivering quality cases, read on after the break.
