Review: Parrot MINIKIT Slim Bluetooth Speakerphone

Some people just really don't like wearing Bluetooth headsets. There are numerous reasons for this; long hair getting tangled, small ears making wear uncomfortable, or just not liking the way they look. The solution for these folks is some type of speakerphone, whether built in to your car or as an additional purchase.

Parrot is one of those manufacturers that I always keep an eye on to see what they're releasing. If you read the review of the Parrot MINIKIT, you know what there were some shortcomings in the design and execution of that particular model. If you're on the lookout for a Bluetooth speakerphone, don't go anywhere. This could be the one for you.

Review: Parrot MINIKIT Bluetooth Speakerphone

parrot_minikit-01.jpg

For those that are afraid of Bluetooth headsets, options are limited when attempting to comply with various state and local laws regarding operating a cell phone while driving. A speakerphone of some sort, whether built into the car or a third party product such as Parrot’s MINIKIT, is probably your best option.

We’ve reviewed several speakerphones here at WMExperts. Jabra’s SP700 and SP5050 as well as Motorola’s T305 are all notable entries in this remarkably underserved market. With the MINIKIT, Parrot takes the hands free experience up a notch by integrating voice recognition technology. This may or may not be a big selling point, considering many Windows Mobile phones (including my AT&T Tilt) come bundled with Microsoft’s Voice Command or similar software. But the fact that this functionality is built into a speakerphone of this quality, makes the deal just that much sweeter.

A detailed review of all the features follows after the break.

Review: Mogul Car Charger & Speakerphone: Seidio G4700X

Historically, I have been impressed with Seidio's product line. So when I saw that Seidio had the G4700x windshield powered mount with a speaker phone for the PPC-6800 / Mogul ($119.95), I was very excited to give it a try.

Sadly, there is little doubt that I have found the first Seidio product that I have not had a good experience with.

Go hands-free on your device's speakerphone

SpeakerPhone 1.04

The recent law that several states passed requiring motorists to use hands-free devices (i.e. Bluetooth headsets and speakerphones) is undoubtedly a good thing.

But if you're still on the fence, SpeakerPhone - Auto On is a freeware app that runs in the background and will, as the name suggests, automatically turn on your device's speakerphone when you receive a call.

Be sure to grab the latest version of the app, and follow the installation instructions.

Review: Jabra SP5050 Bluetooth Speakerphone

jabra-sp5050-1.jpg

Most people agree that the act of driving with a cell phone glued to your ear is not only bad for your chiropractic health, but could be dangerous for you and others. For this reason, several states have enacted laws that require some sort of hands free device in order to operate a cell phone while driving. The growth in the Bluetooth hands free market can be directly attributed to these laws that have been passed in order to protect us from ourselves. Some however, do not like the idea of a Bluetooth headset either because it is uncomfortable or they don’t like the cyborg look. Enter the Jabra SP5050 Bluetooth Speakerphone ($99.95).

Jabra is one of the most well known brands for Bluetooth hands free devices in the world. The parent company of Jabra, GN, is credited with launching the first mobile Bluetooth headset back in 2000. The Danish company’s products are traditionally some of the best selling and well loved on the market. The along with their SP500 model, the SP5050 is their entry into the Bluetooth speakerphone realm.

Review: BlueAnt Supertooth II Speakerphone

One of the places I use my BT headset the most is in my car. Unfortunately, this is also one of the places that I always have the most challenges with the other person hearing me as well. Wind and car noise can kill the reception of even the best BT headsets. I have been on the receiving end of friends who have BT built into their cars and they sounded pretty good, enough so that I was envious. So I wanted to try a BT speakerphone to see if it could do well in a car. I have to be honest and say I had very low expectations, as I would think that a BT speakerphone would be more prone to falling victim to car road noise than a headset would be. Again I learned never to prejudge on preconceived expectations.
