I'm a Missing Sync man myself, but there's another piece of sync software out there that may be worth a look: SyncMate (We've covered it before). It comes in both free and a $39.95 paid version. Free will get you basic PIM sharing (and internet connection sharing!), while the paid version will add media and notes sync to the mix. The new update adds a 'Mail Plugin' which will apparently add in the ability to sync Mail account settings. SyncMate also supports WiFi Sync

Day-to-day, though, I'm not plugging in to sync most of my PIM stuff. Instead I'm syncing calendars and contacts to gmail via Address book's built in support and Spanning Sync for Calendars. Once it's all up on Google, I'm using the free (and excellent) Nuevasync service. It seems to work with everything but contact photos (gmail doesn't support them), but it keeps me in sync with at least 2 PIM categories.

SyncMate Graduates from Beta Version

We took the briefest of looks at SyncMate back in November and found it promising, though perhaps not as full featured as the reigning king of Mac and Windows Mobile sync - the Missing Sync. SyncMate is out of Beta (version 1.1) and now and the nice bit is that there's a free version and an “Expert Version” (for #39.95). The free version does the basics - Contacts, iCal, and Internet Sharing (!), while the Expert version adds on media, bookmark, and folder sync.

If you're already on Missing Sync, I'm not sure if SyncMate is worth the purchase, but if you're considering moving to a Mac + Windows Mobile setup (I like it myself quite a bit), a free sync option might ease your pain just a bit.

Replace Missing Sync with SyncMate?

It looks like there's a new contender for syncing Windows Mobile phones to Macs. The latest software from Eltima, called SyncMate, will do all the fundamental desktop syncing tasks for the low, low price of $0 American. SyncMate is a version 1.0 product, with the practically-necessary-nowadays "Beta" tag after its name. It requires Windows Mobile 5 or 6, and a Mac with OSX 10.4 or later.

Though I've long lobbied for the use of a Windows Mobile phone to actually test stuff like this before I report in Dieter's absence, success eludes me. I don't know if this will work with Palm's "secret recipe" threaded text messages on the Treo 750, or really if this will work at all, caveat emptor. [via]
