T-Mobile HD2 unboxing and possible early release

The excitement over T-Mobile bringing the HTC HD2 to the U.S. Market is increasing. To add to this excitement, unboxing photos of the Windows Phone have surfaced, and T-Mobile customers may be treated to a slightly earlier release.

The unboxing pictures are just enough to whet your appetite. Modestly packaged, the contents aren't that much of a surprise and include the phone, battery, charger and stereo headset. While the packaging also indicates 16 gigabytes of memory that will be the included microSD card with the Transformer movies (part of the entertainment package) preloaded. Shame it couldn't be 16GB of on-board memory.

With regards to a possible early release, MobiTV (a featured application on the HD2) tweeted confirmation that the mobile television app would be on the HD2. In the same breath the tweet mentions a release date of March 23 (as opposed to the early indication of a March 24 release).

This may be a simply typo, but we know T-Mobile is planning a launch party on March 16 for VIPs and the press. It should be that big of a stretch to see the T-Mo HD2 on store shelves a seven days later instead of eight.

Whether it's the 23rd or 24th, T-Mobile deserves kudos for bringing the HD2 to the U.S market.  Now if we could only get the other carriers to follow suit.

As March 24th slowly gets closer, the anticipated T-Mobile HD2 release date, we are now seeing images of this new Windows Phone. TmoNews has captured a series of photos of the HD2, complete with T-Mobile branding, and they look good.  Sporting Sense 2.5, you can see the Blockbuster and Transformer movie shortcuts that are a part of T-Mobile's mobile entertainment package.

Upgradable or not to Windows Phone 7 Series, the HD2 is an impressive piece of equipment and is sure to attract its fair share of customers to T-Mobile. One can only hope that other carriers will spread the joy and offer the HD2.

T-Mobile HD2 release date spotted

We've known that the HD2 is headed to T-Mobile for some time now and have recently learned the pricing information.   But the "when" has been a bit of a mystery.

The BoyGeniusReport has stumbled upon an out of focus events list that might bring the release date into focus.  The second entry on the sheet indicates a "Dark Handset" will launch on March 24, 2010.

"Dark Handset" is reportedly double-knot spy code for the HD2. All of this goes along with the rumors we heard last month about the release date.

Now if only the other carriers could come up with thier own code words for the HD2 and leak release dates!

T-Mobile HD2 pricing

As we await the official launch of the HTC HD2 on T-Mobile, we've all been wondering just what the price of the biggest, baddest Windows Phone available today would be. Wonder no more, my friends, as this leaked spreadsheet shows it'll go for $199.99 with the usual two-year contract and rebates, and $449.99 if you want to forgo such formalities.

Still unknown is exactly when it's going to be available, but it has to be anytime now. Stay tuned. [via TMoNews]

We've known for some time now that the HD2 is headed to T-Mobile. Today at the 2010 Mobile World Congress, T-Mobile announced the creation of a comprehensive mobile entertainment experience for the HTC Windows Phone. The Entertainment Package will be pre-loaded on the T-Mobile HD2 that will include:

  • Barnes & Noble eReader
  • Blockbuster on Demand (Blockbuster’s first-ever video download application on a smartphone)
  • MobiTV
  • Paramount Pictures "Transformers" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"
  • Gogo Inflight Internet Services (six month trial for inflight wifi services on over 2,500 daily U.S. flights)

The Paramount Pictures movies are reportedly loaded on a pre-installed 16gb microSD card. The Entertainment package is designed to highlight the multimedia features of the HD2.

“T-Mobile is committed to offering innovative solutions to connect, inspire and entertain our customers through the power of mobile technology,” said George Harrison, vice president, marketing product innovation, T-Mobile USA. “By combining leading innovation in the world of entertainment with the large screen and processing power of the HTC HD2, we’ve created a unique and powerful mobile entertainment experience.”

The T-Mobile HD2 is expected in stores this Spring.

T-Mobile HD2

Gee, we thought we knew the HD2, given all the stories we've written and the whole Smartphone Round Robin thing. Guess we'll have to see what T-Mobile has in store. Anybody know of any Windows Mobile news coming up next week that might have something to do with this?

U.S. T-Mobile HD2 to feature Swype

Looks like that T-Mobile HD2 (US version, slated for March 24th) just keeps getting better and better.

Not only does it come with a memory boost (or rather, has memory allocated differently) which seems to shape it up for a Seven upgrade in October (that's what we're hearing too), but it looks to also feature Swype.

To refresh, Swype is that new soft-keyboard that first appeared on the Verizon Omnia II. It was then quickly ripped and ported to other devices (to the chagrin of the developers), due to its overwhelming popularity. The company has also recently secured a nice source of funding, meaning we can expect more form them in the future.

Fast forward to today and we find the latest T-Mo HD2 ROM dump features a unique file:

PACKAGE_LEO_1_5_IME_Swype

And to the right you'll see a screenshot of that very file in action. We're also told that this new build is "...slightly more accurate and looks much more polished than the original". What can we say other than we approve of this addition greatly? Nice move HTC and T-Mobile!

[Thanks, Tek818, for the info and screenshot!]

T-Mobile HD-2 rumored for March 24

T-Mobile dates

We've been throwing around a March launch date for the T-Mobile HD2 for a while now. And if this slide, purportedly from an internal T-Mobile presentation, is correct, it seems we're on the money. It shows the HD2 being released on March 24, along with a slew of other current and future devices. Not much to say other than that, until we see it confirmed by other sources. T-Mobile announces Year of Rewards

HTC and T-Mobile have announced a "Year of Rewards" program that will run from January 20th to March 23, 2010. While the program's eligibility window falls way short of being an actual year, the rewards and discounts being offered aren't too shabby.

When you buy and activate an T-Mobile Shadow, Touch Pro 2 or Dash 3G you can receive up to $500 worth or discounts and rewards. New and existing customers are eligible. Once you upgrade or activate a new line customers simply go to www.yearofrewards.com and register. Then for the next twelve months (that's where the "year" comes into play) you will receive notification on how to claim your reward.

Rewards range from a $25 dining certificate from Restaurant.com to discounts on accessories at HTC.com. You can find all the details and fine print over at T-Mobile.com
