Sprint: Treo Pro the next best thing (natch)

Palm Sprint wants you to buy a Pre. That's no surprise. But the Pre isn't right for just anybody. And if it's not for you? Try the Windows Mobile-powered Treo Pro, says Palm Sprint.

(Yeah, yeah, what other Palm choice is there? Try to let that go for a minute.)

In the internal docs our PreCentral.net brethren uncovered, we learn that Sprint's Palm's breaking down users into two classes: IT Centric and Non-IT Centric. You can read for yourself the differences in the pic above. But basically, if you're part of a smaller business (fewer than 100 employees) and your IT department doesn't require major control over your phone, then the Pre's for you. Otherwise, hit up Windows Mobile and MSCMDM.

Treo Pro for $249 with AT&T contract - but only at Best Buy

Palm Treo Pro at Best Buy

This one's had us scratching our heads all day upon reading about it. You can buy the Palm Treo Pro at Best Buy for $249 if you sign up for a "new 2-year activication" for AT&T service. Next stop: The nearest AT&T store. Nary a Treo Pro to be seen. What's up with that? Here's what AT&T had to say:

Treo Pro is a certified non-stock device. Our national retail partners are free to sell any of our certified devices, and set their own pricing. You would have to ask Best Buy if they are subsidizing or if Palm is discounting.

Odd, indeed. But we're not going to worry too much about it. The important thing is if you're looking for a Treo Pro on the cheap and don't mind digging in for two years, this might be the best way to do it.

Hows about a $269 unlocked Treo Pro? (Update: It's back at $359)

Hey, a $400 unlocked Palm Treo Pro is nothing to sneeze at. But what if we told you it can be had for less than $300, and doing so won't land you in jail?

Dell's got it for a mere $269 (after an instant savings of $130). [Update: Eagle-eyed commenter Davidoff noticed that it's back up to $359. So much for that, but still not a bad deal.] Looks like So if you've been holding off, waiting for the price to drop, do you really have an excuse anymore?

Unlocked Treo Pro at Amazon.com

If you've been wanting a Treo Pro but the price made you pause, Amazon.com [via] may have the answer you've been looking for. The $399.99 price tag, with free shipping, is the lowest price we've seen for the unlocked Windows Mobile phone. We liked the Treo Pro when it was first released last year, we still like it now, and the lower price makes it even more attractive.

And speaking of the Treo Pro, there's a rumor floating around that it might finally get some carrier subsidy love from AT&T in the coming weeks. This is highly unsubstantiated (we couldn't get anything official from AT&T), so take it with a huge grain of salt. The post at HowardForums says $250 on contract. But we're not gonna bet the farm on that just yet.

Palm Treo Pro, Samsung Omnia now available from Telus

Telus Treo Pro

As expected, the Palm Treo Pro and Samsung Omnia are now available on Canada's Telus network.

The Treo Pro runs $149.99 with a three-year contract. A two-year deal jacks up the handset price to $400; a one-year deal pushes it to $500, and the price sans contract is a whopping $549, which also is what an unlocked Treo Pro costs in the states.

The Omnia is going for $129.99 with a three-year deal and reaches $500 without a contract.

Omnia, Treo Pro headed for Canada's Telus

Looks like the Palm Treo Pro and Samsung Omnia will be on Canada's Telus network, at least if recent newspaper ads (check out Page 5) have anything to say about it. [via BGR] We're not entirely certain, but the price could well be $149.99 for the standard 3-year deal. Interesting that the Treo Pro gets that much more of a discount than the Omnia, but then who are we do question our benevolent neighbors to the north?

It'll go for $199.99 with a two-year contract, $100 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate. You'll also have to have an Everything plan with at least $30 of data a month.

Alltel Treo Pro rumored for March 5 release

Posted on Monday, Mar 2, 2009 by Phil Nickinson

As we continue to await (and await, and await) the Sprint Treo Pro, the Boy Genius Report, er, reports that Alltel's set to launch its own Treo Pro (full review) on Thursday for $199 after contract and rebate, though BGR opines that "this might just be for divested customers only."

That said, it's cool to see Alltel continue to release Windows Mobile phones (it's got the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro) while its new parent company Verizon keeps playing catch-up, though we hope to see the Diamond any day now. But despite VZW's sluggishness, six of the seven smartphones listed on its Web site are (aging) Windows Mobile phones, so we shouldn't be too harsh.
