Here's a video of the Sense UI stripped out of the Android-based HTC Hero and slapped into the HTC Vogue, the stalwart Windows Mobile device.

Yeah, it's running on Android within Linux on top of Windows Mobile, so it's not you're really running Sense on top of Windows Mobile, like TouchFLO 3D does now. But it is pretty darn cool, and it works pretty well. (What you see here, apparently, is an early build, and things have gotten snappier.) It also has the hooks for basic phone devices. And as Rory mentions in the video, it's more proof-of-concept than actually everyday workhorse.

This Mobile Life via Pocketnow

First we heard it would be the first part of July, then we saw an unofficially official leak of the ROM, now we have the 6.1 ROM itself, available for download at HTC, here.

JayTV wrote in to give us the heads-up and adds that the file is the “Same filename as last week's DCD leak, except a _2 rev on the ROM, and slightly smaller.” Otherwise HTC lists the benefits of the ROM thusly:

1. Upgrades the operating system from Windows Mobile® 6.0 Professional to Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional
2. EV-DO Rev. A functionality for faster download and upload speeds when utilizing data services wherever EV-DO Rev. A coverage is available.
3. Advanced GPS functionality including the Sprint Navigation application.
4. Adds the Opera browser.
5. Adds a full Qwerty on-screen key Qwerty keyboard.

Updates 4 and 5 were news to me, but that might just be because the Touch isn't my daily driver. Anybody tried it yet? How's it going?
