WMExperts.com forums

That's right, folks, we've kicked the dust off the forums. We've got threads for the plethora of upcoming phones. Windows Marketplace for Mobile has its own niche. Windows Mobile 6.5  (and eventually Windows Mobile 7) are highlighted.

And if you missed it last week, the forums were central in giving away a Jabra BT530 headset, and we'll be giving more Windows Mobile accessories away real soon.

Head on over and register if you haven't already, join the conversation, and get ready for some more giveaways.

Contests, contests and more contests (and did we mention all the free stuff?)

Posted on Friday, May 8, 2009 by Phil Nickinson

As you might have noticed, we're in full-on contest mode of late. Something about the spring air makes us want to give stuff away. Here's a quick wrap-up of what we and our sister sites have for ya. Act now, 'cause the contests are winding down:

  • The iPhone Blog: It's TiPB's Birthday Bash, and Rene & Co. are having a monster giveaway. (Hey, we know some of you WinMo faithful are dabbling with an iPod Touch or – gasp! – an iPhone on the side. Happens to the best of us.) They're giving away a full-on factory unlocked 8GB iPhone 3G in your choice of 35 different color options courtesy of the awesome folks at ColorWare. And that's just the TiPB of the iceberg. Who wants free apps!?!?!?! Check out all of their contests here.
  • WMExperts: We're giving away not one, but two phones. We've got an AT&T Fuze (aka the original HTC Touch Pro), as well as an HTC Touch Dual. Contest ends Monday, so get your entry in now.
  • PreCentral.net: The pre-Palm Pre release contest is over, but there are still five $50 Amazon Gift Cards to be given to PreCentral.net Forum Members. How do you win one of those? Simply sign up as a member and score one "Thanked" post or Thank another user's post – in other words, it's quality, not quantity. Get the lowdown here.
  • CrackBerry.com: Hey, when aren't these guys giving away something? They've got 100 themes from JC Designs and 50 copies of TweetGenius to give away. And you can bet there will be more coming up.

If you're not already listening to the cell phone junkie podcast, shame on ya. Take this as your call to add them to your podcatcher, as yours - truly joined Mickey and Joey on their most recent episode to talk about the Smartphone Round Robin

Also joining the 'cast, Matt Miller of our brand new sister-site Nokia Experts. If you're not reading Nokia Experts, double shame on you, becuase there's quality content there both for S60 lovers and (this may mean you, it definitely means me) people new to the platform and looking to learn more about how the most dominant smartphone OS on the planet works.  Have a question about S60? Ask here in the comments and you'll be automatically entered to win one of two Nokia smartphones, the N85 or the E71.  The contest last for another couple of weeks, but the question round ends on Sunday, so hie thee hence!

Happy New Year! Top Posts of 2008

Istock 000002829990Xsmall

Welcome to 2009, everybody. We have some big things planned for this year (you should really really be sure to check in on Saturday, January 4th), but let's take a look back at the year that was rapid-fire style. Here's what y'all liked last year:

  • Review: First Impressions of the Xperia X1. First review on the net to get beyond the little things with the X1. Sadly, we're still waiting for a wide release of the X1a here in the US (some lucky folks in California notwithstanding).
  • GPS vs. aGPS: A Quick Tutorial. Speaking of firsts, Mal's post on the ins and outs of aGPS finally cleared up what the heck was going on with all that stuff. Sadly, we still have all sorts of GPS issues on Windows Mobile and that's not going to go away anytime soon, but at least now we have a better place to start from.
  • Reviews Section. Sure, it's not a story per-se and sure, technically our biggest traffic is (naturally) the front page, but our review section is actually chock-full of awesomeness. Accessories, software, smartphones, you name it, we got it, and we have a pretty decent way of navigating the whole thing. If nothing else, this makes us proud of our writers.
  • AT&T Tilt ROM Update. A lot of people have the Tilt, yo, and in its initial incarnation the base ROM was a little slow and a little buggy -- hence the anticipation for this bit of news.
  • HTC Touch Diamond vs. Xperia X1, Hands-on. Another first and another sign that, at least for the first half of the year, the slavering desire for all things Xperia was nigh unquenchable.

That's some good stuff right there, but there were plenty of other stories that haven't had half the year to build traffic that we're especially fond of ourselves. If you missed them, we recommend:

Celio REDFLY Now Available in the WMExperts Store, Expanded Compatibility Friday

Posted on Thursday, Aug 7, 2008 by Dieter Bohn

The Celio Redfly, aka “the mobile companion” for your Windows Mobile phone, is now available for $499.95 in the WMExperts Store! Don't remember the Redfly? It has been a little while, but we did lay it out in our review:

What the Redfly does is connect to your Windows Mobile phone over USB or Bluetooth and “trick” it into believe it has a large, 800x480 screen and a near full-sized keyboard instead of a tiny 320x240 screen and a chicklet keyboard. So the Redfly itself stores no data and has no processing power, it all stays on the smartphone.

Basically, it takes your Windows Mobile phone and turns it into a NetBook, so you don't have to muck around with syncing your data since it's all on the smartphone already.

In addition to the retail availability, Celio has also let us know that they've expanded the compability list! Full list (drivers will be at http://celiocorp.com/install by Friday) after the break!

One more thing: Celio is also sponsoring a giveaway -- a free Redfly! Details are here.
