Eamon follows up on our AT&T Tilt getting 6.1 story by letting us know that you can head on over to the UTStarcom page for the XV6800 to get your 6.1 on too. That's the good news.

The bad news is that the fine folks over at XDA have confirmed that Verizon have continued their long and storied tradition of breaking the phones on their networks by unnecessarily locking down features. GPS is the culprit in this case -- it appears that it will work with the subscription-only VZNavigator and nothing else. If you want this phone to work as intended, you'll be learning how to flash and/or hack it. Admit it: you love learning, it's almost like Verizon has done you a favor here. Almost.

Thanks Eamon!

We have all lost a stylus. We have all found ourselves spinning around in vain to find a pen to write down a phone number. Anyone who owns a Sprint Mogul or Verizon VX6800 has wished at one time or another that the stylus was just a little bit longer. Well, Seidio has risen to the occasion yet again to meet all of these needs in one nicely designed 3-in-1 Retractable Stylus Pens. ($19.95)

The Sprint Mogul has been out for little while now, but with Verizon's recent release of their own version called the XV6800 I wanted to offer a review of the Mogul (Henceforth we'll call it the "PPC 6800.")

My sole goal in this review is to share my experience of the PPC 6800 as frankly and honestly as possible, so that anyone who is trying to decide if this phone is right for them will be able to look at the pros while weighing out the cons and decide if this is the right phone to meet their personal and professional wants and needs.

The PPC 6800 is a monster of a device, but is it right for you? Read on for the full review!

Review: Seidio Clip Holster for Mogul and Verizon XV6800

I have to admit that I have never owned a holster style case before. I may have been a little naive, but it is basically because whenever I looked at the pictures of them on the internet, I just could not bring myself to trust putting a phone that I paid hundreds of dollars for in it as I walked around on the sidewalk just waiting to take its best shot at my expensive phone as soon as it inevitably falls out of the clip.

So when I was asked to review the Seidio Rubberized Spring Clip Holster for the PPC 6800 ($29.95), I was very cautious in the beginning... for example, only using it over my carpeted areas at home. But even if it is only for this one specific clip holster, it did win my hard earned respect that I never imagined I would (or could) have for it.

Verizon XV6800 Kinda Sorta Released

Somebody needs to tell Verizon what the proper way to launch a product is. Seems like they've duffed everything but the Q9M lately. The Samsung SCH-i760 was kinda sorta released, kinda pulled (not really), and finally released. Finally and worst of all, it seems that folks were fairly disappointed with it.

Looks like we have the same situation with the delayed (and still ugly in name and looks as we remember) Verizon XV6800. Engadget is reporting that some folks at HoFo have managed to purchase it over for the phone for $249.99 after rebates.

I'm waiting to see if the XV6800 will have GPS enabled, because then it would actually be better than its Sprint-based cousin, the Mogul. That is, until the Mogul's new ROM is released next year.

AT&T Tilt, Samsung SCH-i760, XV6800 in the wild

Mobility Today scored some live shots of the hottest sliders coming this fall. On the Verizon side we have the UTStarComm XV6800, which has a blue casing that manages to look even uglier than its name sounds. Also on Verizon we have the near Samsung slider and I agree with Ciccone - it's a lot chunkier than I expected.

The real hotness, though, is our first real shot of an AT&T branded Tilt instead of unlocked Kaisers. The good news is that, except for the badge, there appears to be virtually no change. The bad news is that, according to Engadget Mobile, the Tilt will be missing it's rumored launch date tomorrow due to "some pesky network certification issues."

Alltel Gets HTC PPC 6800

 Phones Images Htc6800 Details

You can call it the Sprint Mogul, you can call it the UTStarcom XV6800, you can call it the Titan, or you can call it the PPC6800 -- which is what Alltel settled on. Whatever you call it, it's the premier slider Windows Mobile device right now - a title it will likely keep in the CDMA world for quite awhile (the AT&T Tilt will usurp it on GSM, natch). Alltel just snapped it up and so can you for $249 after rebates.

The linked Alltel product page claims that the PPC6800 runs Windows Mobile 5, but don't believe their lies, this is the PPC6800 we all know and love - Windows Mobile 6, WiFi (with a convenient switch), and EVDO. If you're on Alltel you won't see anything better come along for awhile, so now's the time.

We've had a mess of Verizon rumors in the past couple of weeks, so let's get clear on what's coming from them Windows Mobile-wise. Fortunately, we have a nice way to do that courtesy of phoneArena, who snagged some internal documents from the big V.

Release dates for all these devices have been all over the map, and some rumors dates have been missed. Suffice to say that they'll all hit in 2007 and I personally think they'll hit in the order I present them after the break, read on.

FCC Confirms: HTC Titan / XV6800 / PPC6800 Still on the Way

Leaked presentation slides, leaked pics, and leaked roadmaps are all well and good, but when the FCC approves a device, you can pretty much stop having doubts about whether or not a device is coming out. Engaget Mobile keeps a close eye on the FCC and it's paid off - the HTC Titan (aka Verizon XV6800 aka Sprint PPC 6800) is coming and coming soon.

The device should have EVDO Rev A, more memory, Bluetooth 2.0, and kill that damnable antenna. Heck, I'm even excited by the scroll wheel and WiFi on/off switch. In any case, if you like to read PDFs detailing radiation levels and suchlike, head straight to the FCC's report

there's some sort of wave of reassurance that washes over us when we see a promised new handset get two thumbs-up from our boys and girls at the Fed.
