Tip: Enable Auto-Complete on Touch Pro 2

Posted on Wednesday, Sep 9, 2009 by Malatesta

This little trick (enabled traditionally under Settings --> Input) basically suggests words as you type. It serves two purposes when typing:

  1. It makes typing long words quicker
  2. Acts like default spell-check

I've been using it for years and for some reason,  at least on the Sprint Touch Pro 2, they disabled this function. Grr. Thankfully monomer888 hit me up on Twitter and linked me to this XDA post which details how to re-enable it.  Awesome

Grab your favorite registry editor and peep after the break to make the two easy registry changes! Need a registry tutorial?  Right here.

(Note: There is a slight change from the original post where the Sprint version is "ET9" instead of "XT9")

IMPORTANT: Be sure that

HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip has a value of 0

Simply change these two registry keys under:

HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e0010409

  • Ime File: \windows\et9ime.dll  --> Ime File: \windows\compime.dll
  • Layout Text : ET9 IME --> Layout Text : COMP IME

Soft reset and you're done!

Great, I'll file this email for future reference ! But I hope when I get my Sprint TP2 in early November that, along with WM 6.5, it'll also have such preferences re-enabled.

is there a possibility of a cab to do this?

On my Fuze, there is a bad (as far as I'm concerned) side affect: The fn+space bar no longer works. This makes it impossible to access certain characters, such as the backslash. For now I've undone the hack.

GTK. Yeah, we don't have any function assigned to fn+space and so far I haven't seen any side effects, but I wouldn't be shocked to find others.

Did this soon as I seen it. Works like a charm!

can somone come up with a cab ?

Hey Chris, sorry I don't have the skills to cab it up. Perhaps someone at PPCGeeks or XDA can do this for you as I agree it'd be much easier.

OTOH, changing the registry values on 2 strings will take you literally 30 seconds and is very easy to do!

PPCGeeks did up a CAB:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1154671&postcount=407

did the cab but now i have no sym pad.... the .com button is gone... the tx9 and the enter button is no longer green...cant swicth between tx9 and abc....this is on the on screen keyboard.......on the slide out keyboard the sym key doesnt work anymore.....is there a updated cab that fixes these issues and if i uninstall this will it go back to normal?

I tried this on the Verizon Wireless TP2 and it turns the Fn+H and J from ;: to \/ which are on the keys above it.

This breaks the Sym Key

WORKS GREAT.... thanks for the tip. I was looking for something like this for awhile. Also the change you made also goes for the T-Mobile TP2

(Note: There is a slight change from the original post where the Sprint version is "ET9" instead of "XT9")

Thanks Again... and for those requesting the cab, you don't need it, just follow the simple instructions and it will take you under a minute to do it. Why make something easy hard for someone else and as I read the post a few of you are having problems with that...

Oh, thanks...I've been trying different input methods for months due to this missing "autocomlete." You don't know how much you will miss something until you don't have it! I used the cab, TILT2 and worked fine. yes the Fn+SYM yeilds no results but otherwise works well.

Thanks again everyone!
