Twikini

When Trinket Software released the first beta of its Twikini Twitter client (Twitter + bikini ... say it slowly) in mid-April, we became instant fans. It was lightweight and speedy. And while there were a few beta bugs, worked progressed, issues were resolved and features were added. Twikini has now reached an official Version 1.0 and has shed its beta – and free – status.

There are a couple of pricing options, which is a little uncommon. For $4.95 you get Twikini plus any of Trinket's other applications (see the full list here). Hardly a bad deal. Businesses (that'd be us) are asked to pony up $9.95. There's a third option, but it's not one we condone. Trinket's giving away Twikini to bloggers. (For the record: I purchased a business license.) You're on the honor system here, folks. Do the right thing.

Oh, and we mentioned features. It's worth reading through the version histories, but here are but a few of our favorites:

  • Multiple account access. A must for us.
  • URL-shorteners. TinyURL, bit.ly, etc.
  • In-line Twitpic. View the pic directly in the tweet. Very cool.
  • View a tweet's location on Google maps.
  • Tweet song info. WMP only, unfortunately.

Twikini runs on all versions of Windows Mobile (5 through 6.5, Standard or Pro). You can try the 1.0 release of Twikini for free for 14 days. (Trinket says the previous beta versions will at some point cease to work.) Get the full deets on their site here.

You can follow Twikini on Twitter at @twikini. And as always, we're at @wmexperts.

Update: Version 1.1 is now out, and it fixes a few bugs (one of them a pretty serious one). Go get it here.

I actually upgraded from version 0.95 to version 1.00 through the application itself and received no warning or prompts regarding purchasing the software.

As did I. And, yeah, that might have been handled a little differently. Go to Menu>Twikini>About and you get the place to register.

I've had the worst of trouble with the beta version of Twikini - my Diamond became unable to uninstall stuff (uninstall list empty), activesync went kaput. I went through this three times, so I am pretty sure twikini is the culprit in my situation. Hope they've fixed it, it sure is a lightweight, capable and easy-to-use twitter client.

I'll stick with PockeTwit from now on, got burnt too many times.

Contact them. Problems can't be fixed if they're not known. :)

I had the same problems, and had to hard reset. This problem seemed quite common in various forums. I wrote an e-mail to them and got no response.

Omg i had the same problem! I thought it was a problem with my device and not something created by Twikini >_> I actually twittered to them about it.

Hmmm Trinket Software, you need to fix this asap.

Looks like it's actually fixed in version 0.7.

"Fixed a bug due to the device settings were getting corrupted on some phones."

A more precise changelog would be nice though :)

Thanks to www.twitter.com/Notrox for letting me know.

I haven't had a single problem with Twikini. I LOVE the interface of PocketTwit a lot better, but for simply loading, tweeting, can't beat the speed of Twikini.

I love Twikini! I've been using it for sometime and I've never had a single issue with it. Although the author is not particularlly "vocal" he does keep the program and change lot up to date.

I paid for the business registered version, even though I'm not a business... I think the program is worth the US$10

Cheers, Glen

Kudos for properly handling this tricky issue. Your colleagues over at PocketNow are doing just the opposite, having covered this app three times in the past few days -- while at the same time deleting any comments that point out their questionable ethics.
