Twikini

Twitter client Twikini V 1.2 has been released. While it's not the cheapest (read: free) client out there, it is one of our favorites. Here's what's new in 1.2:

  • When you click a Twitpic link, a large version of the photo is shown inside Twikini. No more having to launch a browser.
  • You can choose to launch links in Skweezer.
  • Twikini can show @replies and DMs by default at startup. Similarly, you can choose to only auto-refresh @'s and DM's.
  • Nu på dansk!
  • If you scroll to the end of the time line, Twikini will "wrap" back to the top. (Careful: If you're at the top of the time line and hit "up," it'll take you to the bottom of the time line.)
  • After replying to a tweet, the time line won't jump back to the top.
  • Improved GPS codes and several other bug fixes.

You can install this version right over your old one, but you'll have to re-input your accounts. Twikini is $4.95 and has a 14-day trial. You can find it here.

Nu på dans = Sweedish for "Now the Dance"?

Doesn't look like they fixed my biggest gripe about the program, that it doesn't display the full tweet on the main screen. To read a longer tweet you have to tap on it to read it on another screen. Come on guys, it's only 140 characters, you can fit it all on the main screen!

Still my favorite standalone Twitter application by a longshot. I also use the one in Kinoma extensively as well. Not as feature rich, but good if you're already a Kinoma user.

Phil, given that it isn't free, I was just wondering what this app had to make you recommend it over PockeTwit, for example? (Not related to the program's creation, just a happy user.)

Not recommending it over Pocketwit, which I also believe is a very cool app. For my purposes (still rocking a Q9h until AT&T drops the Touch Pro 2), Twikini is more lightweight - it just runs better on an older phone. There's some UI stuff I think Pocketwit does better, and some I think Twikini does better. ...

Hmmmm ... May be almost time for a head-to-head. :)

I've been using PockeTwit since like, v.8 or something, and it's up to v76 now, and still stick with it (on the fairly old HTC Vogue {Original CDMA Touch}). I can't find a compelling reason to pay and switch to Twikini; PockeTwit's just simply been in development longer.

AND, the developer used code from his original MPD client, which I very much enjoyed.

Love Twikini, It is very lightweight and seems great on power draw. Kinoma's twitter app is OK but I think Kinoma is a battery hog anyway. Never tried Pocketwit and would dig a Head-to-Head.

"Kinoma's twitter app is OK but I think Kinoma is a battery hog anyway."

Nope. You can safely leave Kinoma Play running in the background all day (I do), since it doesn't impact your battery life when it's not doing anything.

Kinoma Play's Twitter app will have about the same battery life impact as any other Twitter app, etc.

Pocketwit is quite skittish on the Touch Pro 2. Open Pocketwit, then open / close the keyboard a couple times - you'll find the screen only updates the top 1 inch, and you can't get to the minimize screen or exit buttons anymore.

Will have to try Twikini out and see if it suffers the same way.
