Back in March we made mention of the slide to unlock utility, S2U2. It's a home grown application that brings an iPhone-esque slide lock to your Windows Mobile phone. Well, the application was recently updated to address some of the bugs the previous version possessed. S2U2 version 1.62 most notably addresses the occasional system hangups on the Caller ID screen.

This is actually the second update of this application since we first brought it to your attention. Previous updates have added more features to S2U2 such as adding smaller styled clocks to the unlock screen, adding the option for a second clock display, adding an option to set the vibration LED, and several other option add-ons and bug fixes. There were times with the previous versions where the system hesitated a little, as if it was trying to determine if the screen should be locked or not, but with the updated version everything seems to run smoother (as expected).

As a side note, I'm using this on the AT&T Fuze that's running the leaked Test ROM, that has a slide to answer feature. If you are running this ROM, you need to disable S2U2's Caller ID/Slide to Answer feature to avoid conflicts.

I liked the idea of S2U2, but it was always a bit too buggy for my tastes. Thankfully, the latest 6.5 Slide to Unlock feature provides an improved, stable experience... and makes S2U2 all but obsolete for me.

I am using S2U2 on 6.5 as it has more features and works better than the native unlock.

S2U2 has been stable for me since 1.4 and the current version has more features than the 6.5 lock screen. SMS/Email previews without unlocking is excellent.

Love the functionality this app provides for my ATT Tilt. Can't stand the way winmo 6.1 doesn't lock the screen consequently wreaking havoc in my pocket when i get a message. (Am i just missing some autolock option somewhere?) Hopefully this update fixes all the reasons i had to stop using this program.

I tried earlier builds of this app and it didn't work for me either. Now, however, it really is the one app that everyone with a WM device should have! Any complaints can easily be rectified by the massively comprehensive config which also adds heaps of extra functionality.

The main problem with build-in lock - the improved WM6.5 one included - is that it leaves the screen on and saps the battery, whereas with S2U2 you have complete control over the display behaviour.

Can't recommend enough!

the first comment is silly. It is S2U2 that makes WM6.5 unlock obsolete

Bit buggy on my old smartphone and doesn't work on my new Treo Pro :(

I've been a long time user of S2U2 and even made donations to the author. However, recently I made the switch to WM6.5 and decided not to use S2U2. Why? Because although S2U2 has all the cool features like integration with S2P, preview SMS, appointments etc. on screen, it takes up memory and sometimes hangs on caller ID rendering my phone unstable. The native WM6.5 lock is more stable and without an additional S2U2 software running, it means my phone has more free precious memory (since it's an old HTC TyTn aka Hermes).

I have a silly question! How do I disable windows 6.5's Lock screen after I have installed S2U2?

Waiting for a response :)
