Verizon HTC Whitestone - Touch Pro 2

Two juicy nuggets emerged this morning from the Boy Genius Report's ninjas regarding the HTC Whitestone, the sort-of-but-not-really successor to the HTC Touch Diamond (insofar as it's a black slab sans keyboard):

  1. Henceforth it shall be called the Verizon Imagio. (Sounds more like a "Harry Potter" spell, but whatever.)
  2. It'll be released as part of the Oct. 6 Super Duper Windows Mobile 6.5 launch day.

Specs remain as we first reported:

  • Qualcomm 7600 @ 528MHz
  • 512MB ROM/256MB RAM
  • 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen
  • 5-megapixel autofocus camera/Anti-handshaking
  • gpsOne (aGPS and full GPS)
  • GSM/CDMA World phone

Can Oct. 6 come soon enough for you guys?

I think I'll hold off on picking up the TP2 for a couple of weeks and see if Sprint will trail Verizon on the Whitestone/Imagio/HD2 in the near future.

Finally an HTC phone with a 5MP Camera Running Windows Mobile...Time for my Omnia to go byebye!

I'm curious, I presume you are comparing to the original Omnia, why not go for the Omnia II when its released? I would have thought the screen (tech and size) and onboard storage would put it ahead of this HTC device. Plus there will be plenty of roms available just like HTC devices.

I like the name Whitestone better.
This is basically a bigger screen upgrade from the D2. I'm disappointed that it has the same processor as the TP2 and D2 though.

I would rather the TP2.
On topic with that, how much will this be if the TP2 is $200 on VZW? $150? $125?

what makes you think this will be a cheaper phone then the TP2? i don't know much about it but it looks like a TP2 without a keyboard. if that's the case and its around 125 then this sounds like a winner to me, i wouldn't pay 75 bucks for a keypad

I'm starting the mental "Omnia 2 or Whitestone" debate since I am upgrade eligible.

I'm right there with you. They both look very good.

Verizon has lost its way and has no commitment to customer service. Motorola was a leader in two-way radio technology. But like other cell phone manufacturers shifted all its manf over to China. Motorola should just give up. Better yet Verizon should abandon CDMA technology and go with GSM so they can have nicer research paper. Cell phone manufacturers build plenty of phones for GSM because it is the world standard, however, Verizon still clings to the old antiquated CDMA standard. The phone manufacturers have to specially build a phone to work on Verizon's network, so not as many are available for Verizon. I am going with a GSM carrier when my contract is up. (i.e. ATT) A good network is great, but if the phones you provide all stink what good is it?
Your on life support Verizon, Modernize or R.I.P with Alltel.
