Verizon HTC Imagio

Hot on the heels of our getting some inside info that the HTC Imagio (Whitestone) is still on track for an Oct. 6 release on Verizon, Big Red goes ahead and confirms it, officially announcing the phone this morning. Here are the dirty deets:

  • Verizon HTC ImagioLaunches online Oct. 6 for $199.99 after two-year contract and $100 rebate.
  • Available in stores on Oct. 20.
  • Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional
  • World Phone: EV-DO Rev. A and 850/900/1800/1900/2100MHz GSM.
  • WiFi b/g.
  • 3.6-inch resistive touchscreen at 480x800 pixels.
  • 3.5mm headphone jack.
  • 1,500mAh battery.
  • 5MP camera.

There you have it, folks. The first U.S. carrier to launch the Whitestone (or call it a follow to the Touch Diamond, if you want, even if it's from a different fork in the tree.) But our question still stands: Is this your thing? Or are you holding out for the Omnia II?

I assume Big Red will charge for the 'tv' on top of my unlimited data plan. But any word on this?

Will this have video on par with the Omnia 2? I'm eager to upgrade but really should wait. My Q9C is fine but I love the big screens.

I need to call. Text. Use hotmail and occasionally google maps. Do I really need to waoit for the Omnia 2.

$15 a month for unlimited MediaFlo is what I've heard

Wondering if anything will ever come to Canada.... besides the TP2

What I have heard about this device?

it's bar none the best windows phone I've ever laid hands on.

I'm going to drop the TP2 as soon as I can go live with this.

Whoa, that's a big claim! Hope it's true. Sure looks quite nice and at least different.

No you don't. But you will miss out on a slightly bigger screen(Only .1") You will also miss out on a better screen(AMOLED) You will miss out on a flash and also about 50% more power(528 Mhz to 800 Mhz)

I should probably wait. The flash isn't a big deal. I'm not sure I'd notice the power either.

I do like the Amoled screen. Not sure what else I'd miss. UI is a personal pref so can't say one is better than other. The Imagio looks slightly smaller. I also have a Rhapsody account for which it is compatible. I'd just hate to get it then have Omnia envy.

Imagio has 3 pluses
- its out now
- world phone -runs on GSM & CDMA
- Mature & stable on WM 6.5

Undecided myself at the moment but may very well opt for Imagio now and worry about successor in 2 years when 4G will be the focus

Why is there nothing on GPS? Is that assumed now? I can't go on with this jenky unlocking like my HTC Touch.

Sorry, and what about expandable memory?

Thank you! That's what I was wondering. I had a Touch Diamond and had to get rid of it and fast! I know it's got built in storage, but it's nice to be able to use your existing MicroSD card as well so you can freely move files from other devices without the need of a PC or Bluetooth file transfer.

This looks like a big time upgrade for wm users, at least from an aesthetic point of view. Roomy screen and a knock-off iphone look, ill take it.

Oh, right, you haven't seen the year-old Touch HD before?

Is anybody looking at this and thinking that the small pinholes all around the bodies edge is gonna fill with dust, dirt, lint, etc. ? Looks cool, but looks like a pain to keep clean?

Looks Niiiiiice. Why they don't call this a BLACK SLAB like they did with the LG GM750?

It's a keyboardless TP2 with a better camera for the most part. The most exciting thing about this phone foir me is that people are saying it has full hardware acceleration. If that's true it gives me hope that the forthcoming TP2 6.5 update will really unlock what that phone is capable of. Finally an HTC in my hand with proper drivers.

I plan on ordering online first thing Tuesday a.m. I hopefully will have it Wednesday. I already confirmed with VZW I can ship it to Fedex via Hold at Location since I can't be home for hours.

If I don't like touchscreen only I'll get a TP2
